This really sucks, I know that for me personally, a lot of their product choices were real head scratchers (not sure why they went so deep with zombies...) but they also had a few real gems--I loved the recent Essentials Cheetah they put out. Feel bad for the people losing their jobs in this mess too.

What also really sucks, is that now this leaves Todd's Batverse as the only articulated figure line in production, so that gives those of us who don't approve of Todd's massive self-indulgent bat-wank line direction right now very little hope.

Before people point out that he's making Flash and Cyborg, those are two non-Bat characters to 10+ Batsies. I feel like it's a point card at a coffee shop, "buy 10 bats, get one other DC character".

Disney is in even bigger trouble than Warner as they did some unscrupulous things(from what I have heard), while hurting their cash flow. From corporate guys I know, you ain't see nothing yet. Wait till you see what Disney has planned for their employees.
Disney are planning on shutting down all their European TV channels in September to focus on Disney +.

Agreed I think most fans are sick of Mcfarlane's raging hardon for Batman at this point. I know allegedly in 2021 more non Batman characters should be made but I will believe it when I see it. Sucks when your a fan of the less Popular characters like for me the Occult guys Swamp Thing Constantine Etrigan etc but they can barley get figures made but Batman gets like 100

That sucks, well done dc for giving us an animated batmobile and bat-plane for 6 inch figures, the animated line did sell to me kinda but i only ended up getting batman and robin, I ended up getting a decent red hood figure from essentials.

I now have two lines for DC figures which are now mafex and mcfarlane,

Mcfarlane will have to give me classic characters for me to invest in his DC line, He is getting better but he needs to show us he's exploring other characters and he'll be completing teams. The issue here is he has no competitor now, within that price range so he can pretty much get away with anything, unless I have forgotten one.

Mafex could hopefully give me at least a comic justice league, though that's wishful thinking. They do have a hush line, which is goes from as niche as hush to batman. I say hush as niche, as i think someone like the joker would sell better than hush character wise.

Well this sucks. DCD's been going downhill for years, ever since the mandate became "All Batman and Supes, all the time", but I hate for so many people to lose their jobs. I'm glad some, like Paul Harding, work freelance and have opportunities elsewhere, but still a sad day...

I think we all saw this coming, even before covid. I’m beyond saddened. I loved dc direct. I own hundreds of their items. One of the most exciting toy fairs was when the animated Batman lines were shown. Even my wife remembers my excitement. My thoughts are with all the employees hit by this. I really loved watching Jim and wondering what color jacket he would have on this time.

This world is changing, fast. Covid just sped up some changes. Yet, it is still hard to swallow.

Thank you dc direct. You gave me some of my biggest toy smiles.

Perhaps at some point a “ best of dc direct “ could happen on this site. When it’s appropriate.

I don’t believe this will be the only toy company effected.

That's too bad. I loved their output during the 00s. I still have my Public Enemies/JLA Classified figures displayed prominently. I think the last thing I bought was their armored Batman with the light up eyes from BvS. I had Suicide Squad figures pre ordered but they were cancelled.

I'm another longstanding DC fan, and the last few years have been largely disappointing. I speculate that executive boardrooms got hijacked to some extent by people who are unreservedly disinterested in the market. The term 'echo chamber' comes to mind. The mentality behind mountains of schlock seems to be "If you crank it out, somebody will buy it." The occasional grail is either overpriced or sells out so fast that chasing new releases isn't economical.

"Every ending is a new beginning." Best wishes to those who find themselves looking for a new life / work opportunity.

Sorry to hear that! No matter how bad a company, you kind of have to feel for the folks getting laid off. The ones who called the shots and made all the wrong choices are usually the higher ups and they tend to not lose their jobs anyway,

Just to clarify something I am confused about from the last bit in the post, is DC collectibles the same as DC direct? Does this mean that the DC Collectibles are gone too?

This is really sad news. I'm truly saddened to hear that people have lost their livelihoods. Hopefully they all land on their feet.

Selfishly, I immediately thought about the product that has yet to be released. I recently found a renewed interest in DC product. Marvel Legends has given me the vast majority of the characters I'm interested in (with appropriate looks) so my focus has shifted more towards DC lately. The Batman Animated figures are gorgeous. And I dipped into some of the Icons line and have been picking up a lot of the Essentials line. The figures are great and I honestly have been looking forward to getting more. I also appreciate the artist-specific executions a lot of their figures incorporated.

Regardless of how you feel about this particular company, the fact that it is no more is very troubling for our hobby. We have already seen how the loss of Toys R Us in the states can affect the availability of some lines. Another (what I consider) major company closing its doors can have more impact than we can initially understand.

Add to that that mcfartlames dc stuff is mostly junk an as good as some of the new stuff looks dc collectibles to me put out the superior product. They just couldnt seem to make more than two or three waves of a particular line. And i missed out on dcc reverse flash and flash.

Wow, no more Animated Series-style figures? And just as they started releasing them again, too. What a bummer for everyone involved.

This country is going to shit.

Prediction: Eventually Disney buys DC comics and we get Batman in the MCU. Crazier things have happened...

I echo the "good riddance" sentiment. Last line of DC figs I collected was the DCUC line. That line didn't oversaturate every wave with Batmen/Superman figs. They gave us a huge variety of B-C-D listers. If you were a fan of the JSA, you got em. Fan of the Doom patrol, yep. Loved LOSH, they gave you a Box set with like a dozen of the core members! Crime syndicate fan, they gave you both classic/ modern versions of the team. legion of Doom fan, they did em all including freaking Toyman! Asides for a couple of scale hiccups, the line was like 90% scale compatible with itself. Imo, the DCUC line was the greatest 6' scale based DC comics line ever!

All the other lines were either 7' scale. Smallish 6' scale ala icons line or very limited in articulation type lines that asides from the DCUC line, were oversaturated with umpteenth Supermen/Batman figures. And now it seems that McFarland is doing the same with his line.

As far as DC employees are concerned, heck, they'll be making more $$ unemployed than they did working. I envy them.

Ironically, when DC Direct first started up, they weren't doing any Batman-related product for a period because Kenner still had the master toy license for those characters (and Swamp Thing too).

Could it be that AT&T just wants toys/statues/figures under a single house? I think AT&T will announce a "Toy-line" for all their brands or will have a direct partner. Maybe McFarlane picks up Animated series line, and Sideshow picks up the statues?... I do hope they continue and however it is, they focus on specific lines and they improve QA

Sad to see so many lose their jobs.

I only have a handful of their figures that I put with my NECA collection when they had those couple years of making DC characters in 7".

I can still remember being excited for the Batman animated line, but the first figures that came out were so prone to breakage that I decided to skip the whole thing.

I never followed DC Direct/Collectables news that closely after awhile, but it seemed like stuff was always getting cancelled.

The pandemic has really accelerated the decline of some of these entertainment/media companies. You hate to see people out of work, but when these places seem to care more about agendas and chasing away fans who supported their business and franchises for decades it's hard to find the sympathy sometimes.

I feel like DC Direct/Collectables was capable of so much better, but they didn't always live up to their potential with their figures.

Ohh, that is a pretty big blow then. I thought their DC Collectible statues were pretty decent quality and reasonably priced for the size too. That is a shame.

Thing is we're really like 2, 3 waves in so I cut McFarlane a little slack. Even Hasbro still has to throw Iron Man and Cap into every Avengers wave, so I forgive the reliance on Batman a bit because there is no success for any DC line that ignores the Bat.

That being said, I'm far from in on McFarlane's DC line, and aside from a few figures here or there I've largerly ignored everything coming out of DC Direct because it just was never all that exciting. And I'm a DC Guy over Marvel since day one, so it's always been weird that I've been consistently buying Marvel figures over DC. So I won't miss DC Direct one bit, although I say that in a less damning tone because in the end I really didn't care as much compared to some of the other people posting their thoughts in this thread.

It's sad to see a company fail, but the writing was on the wall, they did the whole re-branding thing and then gave McFarlane a DC license. I mean they didn't complete waves and I'll be fair many of their toys weren't good at all and they were not making the improvements (like photo-real and better articulation) other companies were doing (Hasbro). Merely content just releasing pretty much the same type of figure.

DC has been in trouble for awhile, they make alot of bad business choices. I have not seen good figures recently that correspond to their media (TV, Movie, Cartoons). Their media content also has been lacking for years and I'll say that to end. Can see DC isn't interested in putting in whatever money they have to designing and making toys, perfectly happy having other companies make them, just means for some of us we're going to have to wait even longer for the characters we want.

I always had qualms with DCC's penchant for cancelling figures that were pretty clearly close to seeing release but I do like most of their figures that I did get, the Arkham games line had some notable offerings. I'm bummed to see them go even though they'd mostly lost my attention these past couple of years, I was hoping that maybe one day they'd have had a resurgence.
