Well, that's my "Holy shit!" moment for the day.
Can you tell me how you made Bug? He's really really fantastic- your best custom in my opinion- just exceptional. Great Magik too- I'm going with that hair and a Ventress head on an X-23 body for mine- less busty, more evil.

I was shooting for her earlier days. I'll eventually change her up a little if I can figure something out. Alright, here's Bug's recipe: movie Cap head with his nose dremeled off and sculpt added, hands and lower legs/feet from a Star Wars Sun Fac figure, Star-Lord body (obviously), and twist-ties with Milliput tips for his antennae and the "bristles" on his arms and legs.

Here's an Exiles Thunderbird. I despise his "beast" form, so I stuck to a more humanized version. And finally with the addition of Thunderbird, I now have a 6-man Exiles team! And yeah, I know these guys were never all in the same line-up at once. They're just some of my favorites.

Thanks! I'm actually planning out a Mimic right now. I'm trying to decide if I want to do the popular yellow and blue costume or the probably less recognizable dark pants and orange shirt.

I didn't read the Onslaught prelude, so I don't know what that costume looked like. The only places I've seen the dark pants/orange shirt version are in a few issues (and maybe a few covers) of Exiles. I like the yellow and blue costume better, but I think the reason I'm leaning towards the other one is because I've never seen a custom that used it. Then again, I've never seen a Marvel Universe custom of him at all. Just ML.

Saint, that's another great custom! I also hated his big conehead-hulk look and you've done a great job making it look more human and much better!
Exiles was the best book under Tony Bedard....and the Claremont crapped it up so bad. He wrote in that 616 Psylocke could not only fly but could telekeniticly control the spin in all her body's molecules and become invisible. Suddenly she's able to do shit like the Molecule Man?!? Never mentioned again, thankfully! |

Thanks, Jason and Noodle! Here's my Exiles Mimic! I'm working on some bone claw hands for him, so when they're done I'll post another pic and an updated Exiles group shot.

Thanks, Pete! Yeah, it would absolutely be awesome to get some kind of Exiles team pack. Or at least a comic pack!
I tweaked my Ronan figure a little; I sculpted a new hood and added a little paint to his mask. Also, here's my updated Exiles group shot, with bonus Timebroker figure!

Holy crap! How'd you make the timebroker? I passed up that Pirates fig like ten times! ARRRGH! I could have made Jarvis!
And what head did you use for Mimic? And why dont you cast these for sale, ya jerk!? Last edited by Jason Abbadon; 03-26-2012 at 07:55 PM.. |

Ha! I guess that does look like that Pirates figure, but it's not. The head is from a Rom Mohc figure from a Star Wars comic pack with a resculpted forehead/hairline and mutton chops. The arms are from an Indiana Jones figure, and the body is from Henry Jones with a sculpted pot belly and bow tie.
Mimic's head is from Wonder Man with sculpted chin fur. I've tried to get into casting, but I haven't had good results. I need a pressure pot. I've read and watched every tutorial I can find, and I just can't keep air bubbles from ruining my casts.

Yeah but there's (aparantly) a way around that-
make your mold, then press Aves into it- Aves can be thinned with water so it can be made very soft to fill the mold. It'll take a day or two to cure, depending on how much water you use, but the result should be completely bubble-free. A friend made some starship model parts that way and got great (if slow) results. This for "open face" casting only- but that's all you really need for head repros- you'd just have to drill the peg hole afterwards, as that part would be open to air (and would cast flat). |

My mold making rubber might be a little too soft even for thinned out Aves. I've tried it with thinned out Milliput and the pieces came out smushed. Plus, I now use a kind that you have to pour over the piece to make one complete mold instead of a 2-part. That has helped alot with bubbles on the mold side of things, but I still end up with bubbles when I pour in the casting resin. Eventually I'm just going to have to save up for a pressure pot.

Anyone know why Hasbro can't produce more than 5-6 waves a year, with only a handful of new sculpts in each? Seems like Phe's doing that many in a month or two! |

Thanks, everybody!
Red, all I did for the Universal Weapon was take the top from the Ronin Super Hero Squad toy and put it on a handle cut from a 200x He-man battle axe. Super easy.

I checked out the Jarael figure to see how it started, and Phe's work blew me away even more. I can't see Blink in that base, and what he managed to pull off with it is nothing short of incredible. |

Here's an updated Super Skrull. The only parts I recycled from my old Super Skrull custom were the lower arms.
