Anyone saying this guy looks like the source material must not work out. I didn't know that Disney hired Russel Wilson to play Namor. This actor is short, has zero muscle tone or definition. Lack traps & his arms are puny, the damn arm bracelets look like they're gonna slide off. He has lower back flab! For someone that has gone toe to toe with Thor, Hercules & the Hulk in the comics, this guy looks like he'd have trouble fighting & beating the Wasp. Disney dropped the ball big time on this casting choice & neglecting to work him out.

Sure, I'm completely unfamiliar with that website, however, Hemsworth's incredible gains were widely publicized. Nangiani's startling gains were publicized. Portman's respectable gains were also pretty easily found. I actually did find some grainy (by digital standards) black and white photos (to help create contrast) that looked very pedestrian. The MCU is known for taking liberties, but the referenced character is 6'2" 278lbs and yoked. People will try to defend this casting because Namor's not a household name, but they might as well have casted Huerta as Hercules. It wouldn't be much less ridiculous. And it has nothing to do with the Meso tweak, I actually think that's cool.

Maybe they figure no one gives a damn about his workout and resulting gains since he's not a household name (yet)? Honestly I think he looks cool, I like the Aztec spin on him and the Atlanteans, he may be taller in the movie (if they can do it for Tom Cruise, they can do it for anyone!), and I don't mind the fact that he's not shredded to hell. A person who spends most of their life underwater is gonna have leaner swimming muscles, and the lack of definition could just be fat over muscle, especially if those Atlantic waters are chilly!

lol Yeah, they definitely seem to have underestimated the fandom for Namor and modern Marvel's lack of an over-arching rubric for how characters should be illustrated has undoubtedly contributed to this sort of casting error. Technically, there's nothing wrong with Tenoch's face; he is able to approximate stern looks and emote with expressions well enough. But that's only part of Namor's character. Honestly, for someone that weighs 145lbs, it's a near impossibility for him to gain 50lbs of muscle and meet an acceptable catch weight of 200lbs. It's not just about being shredded. He's a wee little man.

It doesn't sound like you're keeping your hopes high if you're dismissing the film solely by its trailer (because "Attuma looks nothing like the comic book" and "Namor isn't 6 feet tall"?) Would... your life be... happier if you didn't jump to such stark conclusions so quickly based on immediate impulse? I mean... some of the regulars on this board... I worry they suffer... severe clinical depression...(?) Example: one guy intends to stop buying Hasbro figures because... the packinging looks different? And because the packaging has changed, he believes the Hasbro Marvel Legends line will... utterly fail and vanish from existence?? I mean... is the forum dominated by Severely Depressed Control Freaks? "EVERYTHING IS A DISASTER! GAME OVER! GAME OVER! ONE OF MY PRE-CONCEIVED NOTIONS HAS BEEN CHALLENGED!" |

It's definitely a unique spin of the source material, but I actually don't mind how they've adapted Namor's design by adding a Mesoamerican influence while keeping the bare essentials of his look (which is more than can be said for a lot of MCU designs). I'll wait to judge the actor until I see his performance in the movie.

I mean the guy wasn’t the most impressive in terms of build but I’ll be damned if he wasn’t a fantastic player on the field... same thing with Tom Brady, Kevin Mchale etc. they aren’t specimens but they get it done on the field. I guess I’m in the camp of wait and see the movie before I get too hung up on appearances... green scale speedo with ankle wings is a tough look to adapt on screen. Some of these actors I assume are roided up and or on extra T... not this sub-mariner lol Quote:
I have better shit to do with my time than drive around to every store in the area toy hunting.
If something isn't at my local store, I actually exercise patience and wait for prices to come down on ebay, ask a seller to send me a close-up pic (if they don't already have one), and then I buy a figure with good paint for a reasonable price. |

I've bought maybe 5% of my Marvel Legends in person and the rest online (out of necessity, local stores are inconsistent with stocking it) and I have had exactly 0 paint app issues since the infamous Misty Knight lazy eye. So I can't say the doom-saying over this new packaging resonates with me.

Yeah, honestly I'd rather have a toned-but-lithe Namor than another situation like "Kumail takes a picture where his head looks like it's about to explode because of all the steroids he's on". The exercise, dieting, and (likely) steroid regimens so many of these superhero stars are on are just not healthy.

If you can take a trip out to your nearest Smyths toy store some day you’ll love it, I don’t collect them, but I’ve been to a couple of different stores and both were Marvel Legends heaven, also try B&M, bizarrely they can be a good source for decent figs, they used to have DC collectibles, they randomly now and again get in shipments of DC multiverse figs and recently I saw some MOTU origins in there

They're no Smyths store anywhere near, mate. We got a B&M within reasonable driving distance but they ain't had anything good in ages. They did used to be really good for finding great figures at discount prices. And aye, they have MotU Origins but only the vintage head Skelly and He-Man that shelfwarm everywhere. lol.

Today I learned the most important qualities for an actor to be cast as a superhero.
1. Completes a bulk up workout regimen 2. Publicizes that regimen 3. Is at least six feet tall X. Has acting ability to embody outlandish, imaginary characters so that they resonate with an audience -- not important, actually! Like, I get that this is an action figure forum so the bodies are part of the appeal, but when I'm getting toys from a media property, the first thing I want is for the media to be good. Then, and only then, I want a good representation of the characters that are on the screen. |

Yeah. We can't see the figures we plan to buy and no more plastic trays. We'll have figures affixed to cardboard backers and weapons wrapped in tissue paper. No longer worth galavanting around town in the endless search for the "perfectly painted action figure."

As for the who Namor "controversy," I was never really a fan to begin with so I don't really have a horse in this race, but for people who were into him I can totally understand their annoyance. I think the big, giant earrings, nose piercing, and overall Aztec vibe look positively goofy, but that's just me. I'm sure it was done to differentiate him from Aquaman, so whatever.
As for his physique, Namor was never a big, jacked guy, but more lean and muscular. I think the actor looks okay in that regard. I haven't seen the new Thor movie yet but I've seen the after-credit scene with Hercules on YouTube, and THAT'S a guy that needed a few more years in the weight room, because Hercules and all. |
