I go back and forth between the toyline debate to be honest though.
We know they do not promote the toys and I think thats because they let the movies do that for them. There is A LOT of media out there just talking about Marvel superheroes, so its in the mainstream.
Hasbro has brilliantly designed a toy scheme which gives us a stream for the Universe characters (MU). And of course the sister lines such as Iron Man 2 and Thor and Cap have fed into that but they are conglomerating that line into an Avengers Assemble line which will build into the movie.
So between the movies and now A:EMH, wouldn't it just be smarter for them to have the Avengers Assemble line which can be cross marketed between the movies and the show?
I DO see what you're saying about how it is own seperate entity and that makes a lot of sense. A movie Thor looks a helluva a lot different then an A:EMH Thor.
But, Disney/Hasbro/Marvel are smart enough at this point to promote Thor for the movie by doing that "Origin of Thor all day event" thing a few weeks ago, which was suppose to get kids to go see the movie then to buy the toy.
The entire Marvel market is incredibly incestuous, thats just how it is. They standalone in story and in design but in terms of marketing they are built to have kids and collectors want to see the movie/tvshow/toyline whatever. I just think another toyline would add competition to the current product out there.
It's well known that Marvel Universe figures and it's sister lines are probably A) one of the most popular lines going B)one of the HARDEST lines to get a hold of because of the first point (between kids, collectors and scalpers) but also because of the innundation of repetetiive product.
I'm not saying anything new here at all. It's just one brief lesson into the dynamics of the Marvel toyline. But all of this is to say look at the market. Nobody can find figures, everybody wants them, and the mainstream pop culture is completely abuzz about Marvel. We can sit here and way the pros/cons of a A:EMH toyline, but in my opinion...I'd rather see them crossmarket and cross produce those characters into the current lines that are out there.
