I think you pay more for toys online than you would if you were able to find them in the store.
I think the main reason people by toys online is because they can't always find what they're looking for at retail and they don't even want to worry about it.
You're paying for piece of mind.
While I don't know where "Parts Unknown" is, you're not taking into consideration distance. If you live in an area where you're pretty close to everything you need, a small city or a large town, then no, you're not saving anything on gas.
Those of us in rural areas however, which *still* makes up the majority of the country, it's a different story. I have a walmart within a 15 minute drive About 3 miles. The next closest place that sells toys (Another walmart) is 15 miles away. All the rest of my hunting grounds are 20-30 miles. I can easily drive almost a hundred miles in order to get every place I need/want to check.
And when gas is $3.50+ a gal. then yes, online shipping is most definately cheaper for myself, and people who're in simular situations.
