You know, as much as I agree with you on this statement I can't help feeling like these are better left to the books.

I appreciate nods to these events during an anime film/series more than an actual attempt at recreating the magic of the book itself. Take the upcoming season 2 of Avengers: EMH. They are giving a nod to the Secret Invasion, but it wont be anywhere near the book (which is actually a good thing, book didn't do great, IMO).

Same with the new JL: Doom. The nod to story elements of JLA: Tower of babel is appreciated. I didn't like the Batman/Superman: Public Enemies as much as I could have mostly because the internal monologue of Bruce and Clark from the book wasn't going to ever be full realized in animated format. Would have ruined the flow of the anime and yet it detracted from the story IMO.

Same with Planet Hulk. The book is one of my favorite comic stories, I was disappointed with the movie. Many of my favorite moments were removed for pacing and it just didn't seem right. Yet Hulk vs series thoroughly entertained me.

More than anything, I appreciate when a film adaptation does something new with a story and just provides long time fans with nods to those things that made those characters fan favorites over the years in comics.

Just my take.
