With everything that was happening during "The Trial of Captain America" (great story btw) and everything up to that point, I think it made less sense to actually kill Bucky, which means that when he supposedly died in Fear itself, the impact was more of a "yeah right, they better find a way to bring him back that makes sense because his story was getting too good to give him a crap death like this.." than a, "good, he needed to die and he needs to stay dead..." feel.

Now that the U.S knows Bucky was the former Winter Soldier and Russia now has confirmation of his whereabouts and that he's alive, a scripted death was the only thing that made sense enough to allow him to operate covertly again. I'm perfectly fine with this. Plus they needed a reason for why he wouldn't spend the rest of his life in a U.S. prison for treason. Can't be in prison if he's supposedly dead.

Brubaker said he wants to make Bucky Marvel's main superspy, a cross between Sam Fisher and James Bond (though I'd like him to be more of a Jack Bauer, lol). I can't wait to see how he deals with all the sleeper Winter Soldier agents that he himself trained while he was a brainwashed Russian Assassin. Time to tie up loose ends.
