I saw this myself for the first time last night. Bloody awful.
The Good:
Blake Lively was hot, yes.
Maybe it was better in 3-D?
Sinestro's conversion during the credits (but will they make a second one?)
Some bits of the music stole from the Chris Reeves Superman movies. I kept looking up from my phone and asking, "Superman?" Then was all, "no, just Ryan Reynolds."
The Bad:
The intro. Is the GL-in-a-nutshell soundbite really this unbelievable? I loved Hal when I was little because his powers were truly limited only by his imagination (and the color yellow). I loved the Emerald Twilight storyline for this reason. The movie intro makes the whole mythos seem really uninteresting.
If I had to guess, Peter Sarsgaard & Tim Robbins are closer to being brothers than father/son. Sarsgaard is not very youthful looking.
I wasn't crazy about Carol's call sign being "Sapphire."
Hal Jordan's Gl training was what... all of ten minutes? Here's your ring, buddy. Go get 'em. Don't forget that whole gravity thing, it may come in handy in oh about an hour.
This isn't so much a movie complaint but I guess I never realized the 3600 sectors of the universe were on a radial pattern from Oa. Couldn't they have divided it into grids? There would be a lot less ground to cover especially the bits nearest Oa that are almost overlapping.
How did Abin Sur's lantern make it into the escape pod?
I really like Green Lantern, but the script for this movie was a huge mistake. There is too much back-story with the corps & Ferris Aircraft and Hal to introduce the government/alien, Hector, Guardian, yellow ring, and Parallax subplots. Can't they just start in the middle and give people some credit and assume that we know that earth's Green Lantern is a cocky bad ass?
