Being a Transformers collector, I almost feel I need to open my stuff to determine if it was worth my money. I like to mess with it and see if it's actually a good figure or if it's total crap. Granted, Transformers is also unique in that the package does hold value, with bios and tech specs on the back or side of the card/box. That being said, I do have some figures in the box still, but this is usually out of pure laziness. The figure is going to be displayed in whatever mode it's in in package, so why bother opening it? I'm also guilty though of buying multiples of the same figure, for instance, Hound is one I have usually two figures of, one in package one out of, but he's my favorite Transformer as well.
On the opposite hand, I also collect the vintage Star Wars vintage figures, and keeping the package has no point. There's no bio on the back, nothing but general line info and a picture of the original figure and packaging. Those ones get opened and posed/displayed every time. Same with the Iron Man and Marvel movie superheroes, Pirates of the Caribbean and basically all my other collectibles, they are opened and displayed. Granted though, like the Transformers certain ones have info on the package so the card or box is kept.
