True, but if you're a comic fan and you see the one colored like the cover of Watchmen, you'd know it was a DC logo even if it didn't look like one. That was my point about the themes making a difference. It still sucks, but it's better than the b/w versions.

The irony of this statement is quite amusing.
But more to the point: what if they put it on the side, like Pepsi? I would argue that the new DC logo is composed of the icon AND the text, not just the icon. Also, I think it's fine to put the name of the company near the icon when the icon is new.
Granted, this particular example may indeed suck, but there have been several successful logos that are symbols and text but still spell out the company name below it (or used to, in the beginning).
