I've been really looking forward to this wave. The last wave of the line, as well as being Brightest Day/GL themed, making it a high priority.
Character Selection:
Dawn/Dove
Hank/Hawk
Reverse Flash
White Lantern Flash
Green Arrow
Red Arrow
Sinestro Corps Sinestro
Necron
This is certainly quite a line up for the final wave. All are very relevent characters. And from a personal standpoint, three feed my GL addiction, two feeds my Green Arrow addiction, and three feeds my Titans addiction (Leaving Reverse Flash as the oddman out)
We got the current version of Green Arrow, a new chance at the holy grail of all DCUC GL collectors (Sinestro Corps Uniformed Sinestro, in the correct height), as well as the central villain to the biggest DC storyarc in years (if not since Crisis on Infinite Earths), Necron.
The character choices I think are a homerun for the last wave. The only thing that would have knocked it out of the ballpark, is had they FINALLY offered us Wally West's Flash.
No complaints here!
Downside, yet *another* Barry Allen. But at least this one's another Lantern, and at least they gave this one the lightening bolt accessories to help make him different. Nice touch.
Quality:
This is where this wave fails.
This wave has the worst quality Mattel has ever given us in this line.
The Plastic is especially soft. It's been getting bad, but in my set at least, it feels worse than any of them yet.
Reverse Flash's left hand is so badly warped, it can't be fixed. fist is pulled down, and the inner connector is completely exposed. And if it was designed this way (it actually may have been!) then that's a complete failier to not sculpt the wrist to compensate for the desired pose.
Many joints on multiple figures have severe warping at the connecting points (I don't mean the kind of warping where the package forces the limb to take on an odd bend), and makes them look like they're about to pop off the pin.
Many joints across the board are very loose. To the point where several have heads so wobbly, they're almost like bobbleheads.
The packaging is alsy pretty bad, mostly on Neckron. His legs are longer than the width alotted for them inside the package, so both are very warped, and very bowlegged.
Articulation:
I'm not normally one to complain about Articulation, but when Mattel introduced the new doublejointed system several waves back, I was pretty certain that ment they were ultimately updating DCUC to this newer style.
However, the only two figures to use the new articulation are Sinestro (In his legs *only,* and Necron. Not a dealbreaker, but a bit dissapointing. Especially the lack of the new elbows on either Arrows.
Paint applications have a terrible inconsistancy. They range from good, to terrible. Red Arrow being the worst, as paint doesn't match from front side of the legs, to the back side, and paint doesn't match between upper and lower torso. He's the worst of my bunch, at least. None of them really are worth writing home about.
Sculpting:
I really have nothing but good things to say here! Necron is fantastic. Figures that have new heads are fantastic. Green Arrow is one of the line's best sculpts ever.
As for Necron himself... Mattel dropped the ball again. They did NOT include his scythe. They intended one for him, because his hands were sculpted for one, and I believe they've shown him with one on previous occasions. But they failed to deliver.
Given all his parts were spread out across SEVEN figures (His head was given to Sinestro, and his waist to Dove), and how many cost cutting measures they took across the entire wave, delivering a quality that I feel is very substandard from what we expect (Even in the latter days) of DCUC, I feel this is a complete fail on their part.
DCUC has become my favorite toyline. It's outclassed Transformers. I was saddened when Mattel announced the line was ending. And after wave 18 and 19 being full of characters I didn't want, I was *really* looking foreward to this wave. I've been about to bust all week, waiting for my shipment to come in.
This is officially the biggest dissapointment of the year.
I cannot recommend this wave to anyone but the hardcore DCUC collectors.
