Both stands are kick-ass, but the Stage 5's seemed to be easier to come by (when I was looking at least),.. and they're a $1-$2 cheaper per pack. I never did get a Stage "3" stand to have a comparison, but the Stage "4" stands look the same to me.
Those Stage "5" stands look sweet.
Alright well I get asked this question a lot so here is some more info on the flight stands I use in my displays. The first set are the ones I got from hobbylinksjapan (hlj.com). They come with different color types sold separately. The pack comes with 3 different arms, 3 different claws but the best part (IMO) is that you can change the height setting on these ones. They also have different clasps that work for different sized characters. Unfortunately, they are discontinued the last time I checked.
Then I found these ones at frank and sons. Its the Stage "4" ones which also work well. I also wanted to add that if you buy the completed box set, you should get 3 of the fixed and 3 of the posable arms.
Most people use the 3 posable arms but you can use the extra set of 3 fixed arms to add to your GI Joe stands to make 3 additional flight stands. Only a little drilling is required to make the GI Joe hole bigger to fit the peg but at least you get 3 more flights stands out of a pack of 6. I hope this helps you all out.
