I was hoping it would get a sequel. I really liked First Class and thought it was one of the best in the series. Hopefully now that they started much further back, they can avoid any future continuity issues with FC2 and any other sequels from now on.

It was more of a soft reboot than a full reboot or even a true prequel. Singer said he was inspired by 2009's
Star Trek
and its alternate timeline. Also, Vaughn & Singer deliberately ignored certain events from the previous X-films for First Class (some of which were already regarded as errors).
So to say that they tied it to the previous films is a bit misleading. They took the good and left the trash, so to speak.
