This is a fallacy that toy collectors love to perpetuate amongst themselves. This isn't to take away from the work of the talented customizers out there, but what people fail to take into consideration is that customizers have what effectively amounts to an unlimited budget and unlimited part selection to make one single figure. They don't have to worry about how many accessories it has, how many paint apps it gets, how many points of articulation it has, how many new pieces need to be tooled to make it, or how feasible it would be to produce the finished product for mass scale. In short, they don't have to worry about how much the finished figure costs in the grand scheme of things. They don't have to do it all on a deadline, either.
This is why talented customizers will ALWAYS be able to produce better product than the mass-retail toy manufacturers, if they put their minds to it. Hasbro has to work within limitations to make sure the product is still profitable as a mass-retail item. Trying to point at a customizer's work and saying, "See? It can be done so much better!" is a false and unfair comparison.
