Hybrid wanted Rogue and Mystique to start p a breeding harem...which is exactly what any 13 year old that turns into a hideous monster should try for. Hell,
I'd
have done it!
X-Men history hinges on an Avengers annual and an obscure Rom issue.
Writer Bill Mantlo planted the seed for Rougue's turn to heroism...that guy could write some damn good comics, boys!
Rom Vol 1 32 - Marvel Comics Database
Actually they were all in jail from having tried to assassinate Senator Kelly in X-men 141-142 Days of Future Past which is where Rogue & Mystique bust them from. So this is their 2nd storyline app/3rd overall and it all happened in 1981 the year I was born
As far as Bill Mantlo he was hit or miss. He had some good Hulk stuff like issue 300 but his Alpha Flight was just strange like instead of making Northstar 'come out' he made him a fairy, which in hindsight may have been as close as he could come to outing him.
