Wow...the only thing missing from this thread is Doomtron/troom to telling us there isn't enough villains being discussed in this thread. Unless Michael Bay or enraged fans count as villains.
Ya know, theChris said something that I related to with respect to nostalgia factor, in reference to the first TF movie. Symbiote and i watched the midnight showing when it first came out and we thought it was awesome at the time. Then he watched it a second time with a different friend at a different date and time hoping to relive the magic of that first viewing and for his other friend. It just didn't happen.
I'm sure he can give his own explanation for why but what it ended up being the difference was the exact thing we have been discussing. It was the same fans who are probably picking these movies apart now. The entire theater was packed with fans who got every single phrase reference to the g1 cartoon and there was whistling, oohing and ahhhhing at every other turn creating an atmosphere not unlike a con-panel where every little tease makes the crowd go wild! It was some of the most fun I've ever had at the theaters, ever.
But like thechris said...that nostalgia factor wears off and once the novelty is gone you're left to deal with nothing more than the movie in its entirety. No more excited whistling, oohing and ahhhhing fans, who have since graduated to bashing the movie on the message boards for lack of a starscream who actually sounds and acts like starscream and tons of other stuff. Symbiote described his second viewing being just a quiet audience who most likely didn't know what the hell was going on...general audience.
So now we get back to TMNT, for all intents and purposes, where really you have a guy like Bay speak out of his ass and not know wtf he's even talking about and uses the word "Aliens" to describe mutant turtles. I'm well aware that he's not directing or writing the plot to this movie, what irritates me is that he proves he doesn't care about the fans when be obviously hasn't researched TMNT enough to understand why the fans have reacted as negatively as they did. If he had researched, he would have found a better way to communicate the news, alien or not, in a way that was reassuring and not in the typical "I'm Michael freakin Bay, Aliens and explosions and a big titty April O'Neil played by some bimbo hot chick is the $billion recipe" that everyone immediately hears instead.
Michael Bay has come off like that at times. To him, big numbers means where's my academy award?
But to say fans should be thankful and not want movies to improve or say its impossible, just reminds me why i made this thread in the first place, lol. We come to these boards to discuss menial things like this, (menial in terms of importance to the world and my day to day life problems). Harry Potter is one of the most successful film franchises to date and based off a very successful series of books. How many fans of the books do you know bitch about how the books are ways better? Only everyone I've ever met who actually read the books.
Do you go tell Harry Potter fans they should be thankful there are movies made about a story they've already read and know to be better just because you liked the movies and want to go to Harry Potter land in Orlando Universal Studios? I doubt it. Fans will be fans and if we don't voice opinions strongly for what we like/don't like then you will never get anywhere other than waiting for a movie to hit Netflix or your local red box.
