Once in a while, they do totally new bucks for obscure body types like the Parademons. I would have liked it if they did this for the Golden Age Atom, but oh well. Anyway, the main reason I like it is because the sculpts are already perfectly proportioned. I rarely think "This Batman would be perfect if he was more muscular or less muscular." That's the thing I find with Marvel Legends, the bucks are seemingly mostly unique and so it gets kind of inconsistent.
I totally agree with you about Hasbro's paint apps. That and I'm not a big fan of all the overwashing they do. A lot of figures that I've seen actually look like OK looking customs with a very inexperienced hand painted look. Some of the sculpts are downright hideous. And the gorilla arms on some of the figures really bother me. The paint apps on both of the Mattel lines that I collect are perfect. You don't see the paint lines because they blend together perfectly. It's subtle but it's there. With ML and even MU, you can see all the streaks and crusty paints. It just looks dirty. I'm sure a lot of people like this, but I do not. That whole McFarlane era of toys that look like the paint is going to flake or rub off if I sneeze at it has lost it's delicate charm. Mattel = Knows the techniques, uses them sparingly and skillfully. Hasbro = Knows the techniques, doesn't really know how to use them and has never learned the concept of less is more.
Well said. As many people have pointed out before, Mattel really does a great job of producing 6 in. figures. I've heard on here though that the Nekron wave is made from extremely soft plastic though, which I thought was kind of a waste on these characters.
