I saw it on the third and now is my time to "rise" and put in my 2 cents.
I loved it. I will always have a special place in my heart for the 2002 Movie, and I still feel that raised the bar on what superhero movies were like at that time (Steel anyone?) and it helped get the films we get today but...
This Spidey rocked. I liked how his environment was filled with drama but Spidey himself wasn't. Sorry Tobey, no crying over not having Mary Jane while she is dating everyone else but you. Even though this poor Parker was put through the ringer he still has a sense of humor about things, and I like that. Plus I liked the fact that he had a girlfriend. No fawning, no heartbreak not having one, no love triangle with his best friend or Flash for that matter, just a simple girlfriend. Yeah he was shy at first, but normal. It was kinda cool how this Spider-Man seemed a bit more limited in his abilities compared to previous films. He relyed a lot more on his wall crawling, and his webswinging wasn't all that elaborate. It is good because he is still learning how to use his powers, and it saves for more dazzling visuals in the later films. It also gave him a sense of flaw, and it makes room for him to grow, and learn not to come home with a beaten face. I am sure in the next one he'll have gotten much better at this.
Lizard IMHO wasn't one of the best villans in the comics, but hey they kept him alive, and he was great for warming up our hero up for the next lunatic that decides to pick a fight with him.
I also like how Norman Osborne is kinda like an anonymous character even to the fact that all we see of him is a silhouette. I expect great things from this, but my only question is... Where is Harry in all of this? Maybe he'll meet Peter at college. Plus since his character is (SPOILER ALERT) dying, it only makes sense for him to need a formula that'll increase his chance for survival... and then some.
Also because the set up was so right, I think it would be cool to introduce Eddie Brock as he was introduced in the Ultimate story line, but then have him become more like the Venom we know and love. (hopefully they'll stick to McFarline's artwork as the look for him)
Last but not least Gwen Stacey... She is such a good character that I actually wouldn't mind if they did away with Mary Jane altogether and just kept her Peters love interest for the remainder of the films.
I am biased as I do plan on marrying Emma Stone someday even though my wife doesn't agree.
