Interesting touch on a subject dear to my heart. I grew up a Punk Rocker in my early high school years, then eventually became a Rude Boy - full fledged in the scene here in L.A. and Orange County during the early 90's.
As a Rude Boy, I ran with a lot of SHARP Skins (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice.)
60's Jamaican Ska and subsequent Roots Reggae inspired the blue collar/working class Skinheads in the UK and abroad. So in other words, its the other way around. Ska inspired Skins.
In the 80's, ska exploded in the UK and the 2-Tone scene was born. The whole concept of the 2-Tone ska movement was equality. Black and White together. Hence white laces on black Docs. Checkers, etc.
Sadly, Neo Nazi boneheads (as called by true Skinheads) copied the uniformed look of the Skins and made a horrible name for themselves. Many Neo Nazi Boneheads use red laces on black Doc's as a sign of blood shed for the Anglos in defense of their bullshit ideology.
Let the truth be known. The ORIGINAL SKINHEADS were not racists.

take it further back, bro. Toasters were fun, but there's nothing like the old school SKA!
