If you are a UK or Europe based Transformers fan who has been enjoying getting new Transformers comic action on a weekly basis from IDW, we have some bad news for you. Visitors to
Comixology's Transformers section
in the UK and some parts of Europe are being greeted with the message "I'm sorry, the content you are requesting isn't currently available in your area. We apologize for the inconvenience."
According to
IDW's Twitter account
, it is down to a rights issue:
It's a rights issue, but unfortunately we can't offer digital Transformers comics in the UK.
However it is not just the UK. According to the
IDW forums
this has been a developing issue for the past few weeks, affecting regions including the Netherlands and Italy. The UK is just the latest region to be hit by this Comixology withdrawal of IDW digital downloads on Transformers comics.
This means for those in affected areas, buying paper copies of Transformers comics is now the only way to experience the stellar work that IDW is putting out. But for digital only series, such as Fall of Cybertron, Autocracy and the upcoming Monstrosity? Sorry, you are out of luck, at least until these are collected in a trade paperback.
The reasoning for this sudden move is presently unclear, but perhaps those who remember the Dreamwave era of Transformers comics will remember a similar blackout following the awarding of European Transformers comics rights to Panini, which led to Dreamwave being barred from selling their comics in Europe for a time. With the comic rights in the UK currently with Titan, could this be a similar situation? Unless an official statement is made, we may never know. What is clear is that this is a bad day for European Transformers comic fans. But at least we still presently have print versions of IDW's comics to enjoy.
