Prior to Picard's "Money doesn't exist in the 24th century" line in First Contact, there was obviously currency in Star Trek. It was called "credits". Good example is in "The Trouble with Tribbles" where Cyrano Jones was selling the tribbles at 10 credits a "head". Another comes from "Encounter at Farpoint" where Dr. Crusher sees some fabric she likes on Farpoint station and asks for it to be sent to the Enterprise when it arrives and to charge it to her.
