Johnny Popcorn is a band on a mission, Their music is a mix of rock, punk, funk, and lot of Philly soul. The band’s founders, Tone Whitefield (producer) and Hezekiah (lead singer), have already gained individual notoriety. Whitfield, a respected producer and bassist, has worked with Me’shell Ndegeocello, Bilal, Zap Mama, and Estelle. while Hezekiah is a hip hop emcee and producer with three full-length solo albums under his belt Hezekiah has worked with an eclectic mix of artists such as Bilal, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, The Roots, Cody ChestnuTT, and more.

In 2012, membership of the group grew with the addition of guitarist, Lloyd Alexander and vocalist Jani Coral . Tone, is still the man behind the music producing the Johnny Popcorn sound, while Hezekiah leads the band on stage. Johnny Popcorn has opened for acts such as RJD2, Cody ChestnuTT, Bilal, Oddisee, and Robert Glasper.
Based off the band member’s personalities, Johnny Popcorn has adopted the crow as a visually representation of the band sense it is often seen as an outcast and is misunderstood. Their music has inspired Comic book artist Howard “Sketch” Russell to create an illustrated world featuring “The Crow” which explores the band’s lyrics in a colorful and vivid setting.
