Next up in our advance looks at the next assortment of Transformers Generations Deluxe class toys we have a look at
Dreadwing
! Dreadwing is the other redeco / remold in the third wave of Transformers Generations IDW Comics pack-ins. He is a redeco of the stealth bomber Megatron, done to homage the Generation 2 Dreadwing ATB (which was itself to have been redecoed as a version of Megatron, so there is a nice bit of parallelism there).
As a homage to a Generation 2 era toy, Dreadwing is bright and vibrant, though fortunately the gaudiest elements of Generation 2 have been toned down for this release. You've got a nice contrast of the dark blue armor on the vehicle mode, and the lighter blue on the limbs of the robot, with some clear red plastic on the eyes and the gun to break things up. Dreadwing works really well as a reuse of the Megatron mold, and is an excellent homage to the Generation 2 toy he is based on. The broad-shouldered feel of Megatron's mold lends itself to Dreadwing, whose toy was fairly substantial and bulky, and the new head helps to distance this toy from Megatron somewhat, although there is no escaping that this is a Megatron remold, particularly with that arm cannon (which can double up as a hand weapon, so there are display options to give Dreadwing more individuality).
Overall Dreadwing is a very nice homage to the Generation 2 toy, and I have to praise Hasbro for going ahead and putting the Generation 2 Decepticon logo on the toy and on the packaging. The toy remains an excellent mold and the new head together with the vibrant deco breathes new life into the design. Very much recommended - and if the fact it is a Megatron redeco has put you off Dreadwing, I would invite you to look again.
