I totally agree with you. The Beetle surprised me a lot, I ended up liking the guy a lot more than I thought I would. It's an excellent sculpt, and he really comes to life thanks to the excellent articulation.
Being a big fan of the Eddie Brock character, I was really concerned about Toxin when I first saw the pics of him, but after getting him in hand...I really like him a lot. My only gripe is his feet, which I felt shouldn't have been molded to look like boots, but the whole figure, especially the red and black faded wash on the paint apps, has really grown on me.
I've ran into Boomerang a few times...my latest being tonight, and I cannot justify picking him up despite my being a completionist due to the horrible paint app issues that you mentioned. They always seem to have horrible smudges on his visor, or on his chest plate.
