Moon Knight's of a Jewish family who escaped the holocaust and came to America, he has a brother (Randall Spector) with whom he fought. Eventually he leaves his family and joins the army, then the CIA, that bores him so he becomes a high ranking mercenary, gets stranded for dead after moralizing at the wrong time and gets his powers after dying at the foot of Khonshu's statue and then being resurrected as the moon's knight of vengeance. He becomes schizophrenic with multiple personality disorder and dissociative identity disorder, becoming Marc Spector (the real person), Moon Knight (vigilante), Steven Grant (millionaire playboy), and Jake Lockley (cab driver).
His friends are: Marlene Alraune (his girlfriend), Frenchie (his cool french pilot friend, who also reveals himself to be gay), Crawley (a hobo in-the-know), and a family who owns a diner that act as his street ears (I forget their names).
His villains are: Bushman (his former merc partner who left him for dead), Black Spectre (a disgraced politician seeking revenge), Midnight (his former sidekick gone insane and made into a cyborg), Morpheus (a dream invading villain), and Hatchet/Shadow Knight (his brother turned serial killer). none of his villains are around anymore, as Moon Knight has killed all of them, violently.
A pretty good trade paperback to read to get a feel for Moon Knight and his world is Moon Knight: The Bottom (collects Moon Knight vol.3 #1-6), This book is marked as being for mature readers only and does contain some pretty strong violence and content.
