If what you say is indeed a fact and not opinion or speculation, then you should be able to provide some level of proof regarding Hasbro's intentions. Proof such as links to an interview with Hasbro's brand managers or their design teams where they confirm what you have said here.
I'm cynical enough to believe what you say is a possibility. But without concrete proof, I have no choice but to consider everything you say as hearsay - not fact.

That sort of proxy bidding is a less-than-noble tactic that has been used on Ebay and other auction sites for years (and at live auction even longer than that) as a way to artificially raise the auction price or stir up interest in an item.

The MacFarlane sculpt is arguably the best 6" version of Spider-Man ever made, which somewhat explains the demand for it. As for why the prices are so ridiculous, that goes back to the point of this thread.
