Well, I think for most of us, if we had unlimited space and money, we'd probably build some fairly large armies, comparable to what is seen in the comics. But for the economy collector (me), I think 3 is a perfect number to start off with. 2, of course, is just too "twin" like, it never works.

3 is the start off point. Leaving it at 3, of course, is not a very formidable army. I think the sweet spot for me would be 8-10, just because I have limited space. It depends on the organization, though. For example: HYDRA soldiers are pretty expendable, so there would be way more of those guys in your figure army. Same for the AIM soldiers. But SHIELD would have better trained tactical units, so you would need less for them, say around 5-6 figures.

I do agree with you that you would have to take into account possible leaders and field officers like Baron Strucker and Nick Fury.

One of the more interesting armies I'm looking to build is actually a one-man army. When Multiple Man comes out, off the bat I'm gonna try to get at least 3.
