Next up in our galleries of upcoming Transformers Generations toys we have a look at the wisecracking Maximal rat - it's
Generations Rattrap
!
Rattrap was one of the original five Maximals introduced in the early episodes of Beast Wars. Masterfully voiced by Scott McNeil, Rattrap was a pessimistic Maximal known for sighing and saying "we're all gonna die" when faced with impossible odds - usually before making a major stand and playing a role in making sure everyone came back in one piece.
Rattrap's original toy was one of the first Beast Wars releases, a flipchanger Basic, but here, Rattrap has got the full Deluxe class upgrade, and what an upgrade! Much like Rhinox and Waspinator, Rattrap has been given a wonderfully show accurate design for his new toy, right down to the way his backpack folds up onto his back. There are a lot of cool features in the transformation such as how the rear beast mode legs transform into the robot mode legs. Compared to his wavemate, Tankor, Rattrap is a real puzzle of a toy, requiring some careful alignment of parts to get everything clipped in properly in beast mode. Rattrap's gun is based on a weapon the Maximals used in the show, and it can break down into two smaller pistols as well, so there are plenty of display options with it there. He's also got a flip-up panel in his arm which has a little bomb pop out, again modeled on a feature of the character in the show, another nice touch, and the rat's tail is made of soft rubber around a wire, so it is quite bendy and poseable. One thing that scares me a bit with my Rattrap are the shoulders - because they are tight, trying to move them sometimes makes it feel like the parts they are attached to are being tugged instead, which might risk a breakage down the line if you're unlucky.
Overall, Generations Rattrap is a fantastic loveletter to the Beast Wars series and I'd saw he is probably my favorite of the three Beast Wars homage toys released for Generations at this time, though it's a close run thing between him and Rhinox, no offense Waspinator.
