They're based specifically on the designs of early 80's Kenner action figures. From the figure style to the packaging, which is essentially the Star Wars cards with different art, they scream "Kenner".
Adding in additional joints defeats the purpose of the line completely. They then become just crappy looking action figures that don't inspire the nostalgia of Kenner stylings and can't compete modern collector oriented 3.75" figures. They would fall into this weird directionless limbo. With these designs, they're being very direct and focused, which people seem to be eating up (myself included). I like them specifically because they look like old Kenner figures.
For the record, Entertainment Earth is listing 5 ReAction figures in their top 10 selling toys this week.
1. Doctor Who The Impossible Action Figure 2-Pack
2. Venture Bros. Monarch & Dr. Mrs. in Tin-Convention Exclusive
3. Terminator Chrome T-800 ReAction 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure
4. The Walking Dead Comic Series 3 Action Figure Set
5. Escape from New York Snake ReAction 3 3/4-Inch Figure
6. Terminator Kyle Reese ReAction 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure
7. Terminator T-800 Leather Jacket ReAction 3 3/4-Inch Figure
8. Venture Bros. Brock Bloody Shirt 3 3/4-Inch - Con. Exclusive
9. Lone Ranger Tonto 1:4 Scale Action Figure
10. Terminator Sarah Connor ReAction 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure
