I could get into the idea of a Gamera reboot from Legendary pictures, Pacific Rim was cool and more importantly the Godzilla reboot was a great return to his formula.
LOL I agree on all accounts. Late 90's Gamera was my favorite and the definitive look I would want re-captured. I would absolutely love a reboot. The only thing I worry about is the over saturation of the market. I liked Pacific Rim's kaiju and giant robos, but I was left wanting. Godzilla really did a great job in capturing the awe, fear, and majesty of the character (being a big fan of Bryan Cranston added the icing to my cake). They did so well, that I feel that Gojira deserves to flex in his own spotlight for right now.
Those early Gamera movies are very nostalgic for me. Even as a kid, it was easy to note that Gamera was decidedly kinder to humans....I hadn't developed a mean streak (yet) and found the righteous anger Gojira displayed at the abuse of the planet (by humans) a bit too indiscriminate in nature. While I appreciated the Japanese narrative of 'preserve the earth' (at times pedantic), I always got the feeling that Gojira would wipe out my entire family to stay on message - that message being: "well, I'll destroy you ALL because humans really suck!" (feel like I should note that this was my experience with 'Zilla plots - not everyone feels the same way) It took me a while to grow into that sort of fury....I needed more real life experience with mankind's fouling of our environment and the general subjugation/denigration of the weak/poor/& sickly. I really like them both very much, I just lean towards Gamera.
