I was much more into horror movies when I was a kid. I'll always have a soft spot for them, though, because they played a key role in developing my interest in writing.
There are a few that I watch every year around Halloween time. Carpenter's
The Thing, Halloween 2, Halloween H20, Blair Witch project.
(I second the notion that BWP is infinitely better than
Paranormal Activity
, those movies are so mind-numbingly boring that they are completely unwatchable to me) Sometimes I'll watch one of the Chucky movies, if only to laugh at my younger self, who was absolutely terrified of dolls because of those movies.
The original
Dawn of the Dead
is an absolute classic. Snyder's remake is a total PoS. I love the
Evil Dead
series, even the latest one... despite the fact that I was originally against its existence in the first place. VERY excited about the potential tv series.
The Conjuring
and
Sinister
are two recent horror movies that I've come to enjoy. The home movies in Sinister were legitimately horrific, and I'll never forget the opening scene. The Conjuring wasn't all that creepy to me, but I found it to be very enjoyable and also made for a good tribute to the Warrens.
As for non-horror Halloween movies, my yearly rituals also include watching
Hocus Pocus
and the
HalloweenTown
movies if Disney channel decides to show them. There was also an ABC Family movie where Christopher Lloyd was killed by an avalanche of pumpkins, and for the life of me I don't remember the name. I haven't seen it anywhere in years, but it was on my shortlist for a couple of years there.
...Well, there are a few scattered thoughts on the subject.
