The quality control on the Hasbro ML figures is much higher than that of the Toybiz ML. Far less reports of stuck joint, and the Hasbro ML tend to be more durable. Toybiz excelled at intricate, sculpted detail, and articulation. Sometimes there was too much articulation, and sometimes the articulation compromised the sculpt, for example like on SMC Daredevil(the one with the gargoyle base), which had huge shoulder ball joints.
With Hasbro sometimes there is too little articulation, for example the ball jointed knees plus 45 degree angle hip joints with no thigh swivel, which is not a good replacement of the ball jointed hip/thigh swivel/double jointed knee legs that Toybiz used a lot. In some cases the "elbros" are seen, where the shoulder is ball jointed just one one side, and has no bicep swivel, in favor of a elbow ball joint. In some cases such as on bigger figures, this is understandable but I prefer the ball jointed shoulder on both sides/bicep swivel/double jointed elbows on figures that ought to have them, like the recent Heroes Reborn Iron Man.
For me, I want neither too much articulation, nor too little. My favorite Hasbro ML figures have been first appearance Captain America, the Movie Iron Man figures, the Black Spiderman from the RULK BAF wave, Human Torch from the Ares BAF wave, Ronin, Wolverine from the 2 pack w/Forge, Savage Surfer, 6" movie Venom, and more. Why? They have the right amount of articulation for me without "breaking" the sculpt. This articulation consists of:
-ball joint head
-ball joint shoulders
-bicep swivel
-double joint elbows
-ball joint wrists
-ab joint
-waist joint
-ball joint hips
-thigh swivel
-double joint knees
-ball joint ankles
This to me is super articulation without going overboard. I'd rather have the above amount of articulation as a standard by which future 6"scale ML figures by Hasbro are made, rather than seeing the "elbros/kneebros" ever again. This is a more balanced approach, similar to what SOTA did with the first 4 waves of their Street Fighter line, nothing excessive, but no minimalism either. An example of a figures with too much articulation and a compromised sculpt is Toy Biz's ML Wave 5 Sabretooth. The shoulders are
huge
and the toe joint is unnecessary.
