Wrapping up our photo gallery coverage of the first waves of the Combiner Wars, we're taking a look at the big bot himself, Optimus Prime!
Combiner Wars Optimus Prime
is a Voyager Class version of the Autobot commander with inspirations from the current IDW comics design (as well as taking cues from Transformers Energon Optimus Prime and maybe even the Powermaster Optimus Prime / Ginrai).
Optimus Prime is very much a toy. He's big and chunky, and has that certain "larger than life" feel to him - the kind of feel the Autobot commander usually gets in fiction. Poseability is good, and you can squeeze a bit more lateral arm movement out of the toy by unclipping the shoulders in robot mode. Optimus has two blasters, one based on the iconic Ion Blaster, which combine into a larger weapon that looks good held in two hands, or held by the gigantic Ultra Prime combination.
Ultra Prime is a cool extra for the toy. There's some great points on it, such as Optimus' hands providing 5mm sockets for shoulder mounting weapons, as well as the chest details featuring a very Transformers Energon looking Matrix. On the less pleasing side, the legs are a bit awkward thanks to the way they transform, and while there's scope to adjust them to suit your taste, they are the weakest point on the design.
Overall Optimus is a cool design and worth checking out, either as himself or as one of his upcoming redecos / retools including Stunticon Motormaster. For now though, please enjoy our gallery at the link below:
