Sideshow Collectibles
has updated their
Q&A
section with the latest answers to questions about their
GI Joe
products:
Q) The Snake Eyes diorama is amazing!!! However I don’t collect dioramas anymore. When can we expect to see the first G.I. Joe comiquette/statue?
A)The first G.I. Joe statue is still a bit of a ways off, but the first Premium Format figure is likely to be unveiled before 2010 is over.
Here are some neat tidbits from the past few days as well:
Q) You recently showed us a sneak peek of the head sculpt of the upcoming 12-inch Zartan figure. It looks great by the way, but it does bring two questions to mind: 1) How will Sideshow be handling his and other character’s exposed chest/abs? Destro and Gung Ho also suffer from having large amounts of their chests visible and that would seem to be a bit against Sideshow’s slightly realistic take on the GI Joe line. I mean, why wear chest armor and leave your six-pack exposed? 2) Will Sideshow attempt to recreate the infamous color-changing plastic of the original Zartan? Original Zartan figures still turn blue to this day and never seemed to suffer from mis-coloring like the recent 25th Anniversary line’s Zartan did. It certainly isn’t a deal breaker if the Master of Disguise doesn’t turn blue in the sun, but it would definitely make a nice addition to him!
A) Good questions – and those have been hot topics amongst the designers. Ultimately, we’ve decided to give Zartan a bit more armor and equipment, so he won’t be quite as exposed as the original figure designs. Look to our Zartan VS Flint diorama (to be announced sometime in July 2010) for a good idea of how we’re likely to interpret the character in 12-inch. Destro and Gung Ho will likely be handled in similar fashion, although both will make use of a new, beefier body. We have hopes of capturing Zartan’s color change feature in the new figure, but we still have a ways to go in R&D exploration before we can make any promises. The perma-stain green/blue coloration is something we want to avoid.
Q) Your G.I. Joe figures are spectacular! One question for you though; is there any chance of a Steel Brigade figure being made? If you remember Hasbro started the Steel Brigade in 1987, which featured a kit-bashed figure with unique helmet and the idea was that “you” could be the Joe in the suit. Hasbro even allowed you to fill out a questionnaire that would be used to create a custom file card with “your” name, codename, and specialty. Is there ANY chance that Sideshow can do the same? Many fans would love to have the opportunity of “becoming the next Joe!”
A) Not for the time being – we have too many popular, named characters to get to still, as well as army builders and ninjas to tackle. But it is an interesting suggestion, and we will share it with the team!
Q) Is it possible to have the Exclusive Beachhead figure come with a separate cloth balaclava? With the exclusive being an unmasked portrait with a removable plastic beret, it would be a nice feature to be able to put a cloth balaclava in the shoulder loop used for the cloth beret. That would just seem to be a logical move for him to make – just swapping the place of the mask and beret when he uses one or the other.
A) It’s a good suggestion, but we’re too far into production to act on the idea now. Beachhead will be shipping sooner than later – we’re just working through some paint explorations on his portraits, to give them some heightened realism.
Q) Fantastic job on the latest Snake Eyes diorama! How often can we anticipate the G.I. Joe Dioramas to be released? I think Zartan on his Chameleon Swamp Skier with sunlight shining on part of him showing off his “blue” skin would be a great way to show off his uniqueness as an action figure!
A) We’re likely to announce new G.I. Joe dioramas roughly once every three months or so, and the next will be Zartan vs Flint, which should be ready to unveil at during our Comic-Con celebration in July!
