I'm not sure if this is Hasbro mandated, or more on TRU's end, and while I don't normally complain about 5POA price points,
that is F'n insanity
. They are now the same price as Black Series figures
(which defeats the purpose of the 5POA figures to begin with, which is to get the figures out at a lower price point to appeal to children,)
and I find it amazing that I can now order stuff from China on Ebay shipped at a cheaper price point than a 5POA figure sitting on the peg right here in the good ole' USA.
Really bad timing too...as 5POA figures are usually perfect Easter basket stuffers due to their cheap price points, but I guess TRU has no intention of moving product this year during the Easter season.
i LOVE those mandalorian figures.. hell, i love most of the clone wars figures.. i wish they'd go back to making more of those.
i hate the 5POA figures, even as a kid i would've hated them. i remember as a kid, my favorite toys were ones that were articulated.. like the MMPR flip heads, or the kick ass larger figures. now those were awesome.
i have yet to see a child look at or get excited over any of those 5POA figures. i just don't understand them. and at $10.. you're right, that's totally insane.
it has to be TRU. they did the same thing with transformers. the generations deluxe figures are now $20, and the leader figures are now $50. they're roughly $5 more than every other retailer which is a lot.
they're going to price themselves right out of the market. the only thing they're good for at this point are neca type figures and exclusives.. otherwise, almost* everything else is available much cheaper at walmart or target.
the only thing that can keep TRU afloat is having a wider selection, and getting new figures in before any of the other retailers.
i think they're at a tipping point. their prices are going to continue to rise. soon, even the neca type stuff they have is going to cost as much as it would in a local comic book shop and when that happens, what's the point of going to TRU?. if they keep this up, it's not going to be pretty. aren't they having trouble as it is? you'd think they'd try to make it more inviting, level off the prices, know their products, get the newest stuff in quick, have some sales, etc. the last thing they should be doing is raising their prices AGAIN.
i never thought i'd see the day that a deluxe transformer would cost $20 (lets not forget that transformers these days have been considerably simplified). it's sickening. i know they need to make money, but raising the prices like this isn't going to help them the way they think it will.
with e-tailers getting items in stock quicker, a lot of places have free shipping past a certain amount, there's amazon prime, and hasbro toy shop almost always has a coupon code, the most recent one gave you 20% off + free shipping. it's going to continue to get even more difficult for toys r us to thrive, and that's without raising prices. since they have raised their prices significantly again, i just can't see their business sustaining for very long. i feel that their loss of customers is going to hurt them more than the price hike is going to help. but hey, what do i know.
