Budget is an up-front consideration. Black Series is cheaper than Figuarts. Figuarts will probably release fewer figures, and there may be more time between releases. Do you want quantity or quality? Do you need everything to be precisely the same scale, or can you pick and choose your favorites from different lines?
Take a look at the Figuarts rendition of
Luke Skywalker
. Clearly, Figuarts intends to distinguish their product by focusing on accurate, detailed head sculpts. Fine. But now take a look at Luke's body. Note the ab crunch. It'll enable some collectors to strike dynamic poses, but I don't do dynamic poses, and to me it just looks ugly.
I believe Figuarts displayed prototypes of Han and Chewbacca a few months ago, and the photos that I saw looked outstanding. If the head sculpts are recognizable and the articulation doesn't get in the way of appearance, I mean to cherry-pick those rather than the lower-budget versions by Hasbro.
Figuarts lacks the experience of Hasbro. Expect future releases to incorporate lessons learned. In that spirit, I intend to pick and choose my favorites from each line. Rgds
