We're finishing off Wave 3 of the Combiner Wars Legends and kicking off our galleries of the Combiner Wars Protectobots in one fell swoop - it's the turn of Groove to take the spotlight!
Protectobot Groove
is no longer the same size as Streetwise, Blades or First Aid, but is instead the Legends class member of the team. He's not an essential part of Defensor, but when he combines, it is as armor for the gestalt.
Groove sports a cool highway cop-style motorcycle alternate mode, which transforms into a neatly articulated robot mode. There's a lot of motion in both the arms and legs, and even a tiny bit of head movement from side to side. Because of the alternate mode, Groove ends up with a small torso and long legs, which looks a bit weird, but it's mitigated by the fact that Groove can strike lots of nice poses. The chest armor mode is a real transformation - it's not just sticking the vehicle on the chest of the combiner like with Blackjack - and it fits solidly. The only real fault we can find is that Groove has no accessory - a nice blaster, like the one that comes with Legends Optimus Prime, really brings out the best of what this toy has to offer.
Overall, Groove is a neat little toy. He's just started arriving at US retail, so be sure to keep an eye out for him and his fellow Legends Viper and Warpath if you like what you see here.
