Little more complicated than that. There were a lot of issues Marvel was dancing around with Janet and Hank in particular. Most notably the domestic abuse issues in the comics. The movie looks decent though, and Scott Lang introduced this fast provides other possibilities later. Now instead they have larger areas of exploration and possibly even the "Wasp" tech after the movie thanks to the Yellow Jacket suit.

It's partially true. The part about Whedon wanting to use the characters might be, but it may not have been because of Wright. The MCU is a lot of moving parts and plotting ahead of time to keep it coherent. Granted it's fluid planning that can shift as needed, but they are universe building and trying to balance general audience and comic audience while building this world.
Plus there's a question of how much towards Ultimates it would have gone if they kept those two, and they needed to go more original anyway to avoid those comparisons.
Doing it this way provides more open story avenues for later.
