I get that doing them as a mego first to test the waters is less costly since there isn't as much new tooling/sculpting but I still feel like maybe it would have sold better if it was a regular figure since that's what most people initially wanted, but then again that might not have sold that well since it isn't exactly a high profile license.

Some licenses, like Escape From NY, may have worked better if timed with a special edition blu-ray release or something of the sorts. Lining it up with an anniversary or a bit of fan fare from the cult film community may have also helped.
