What round table of PC Bros casually farted out this idea? There were two girls dressed as Slave Leia at a Halloween party I just went to, so someone must still like it.

I can see the point they wish to make with this move and the people they want to appease, but I feel that it's giving a little too much ground to misguided individuals. It's used in the narrative to make a point, and that is being missed entirely. I think, objectification aside because I have no control over what people do with that, there is something to be said for artistic integrity. It happened, it can't be forgotten. I wouldn't call the treatment entirely distasteful, and it highlighted Jabba as a monstrous individual. She did win in the end, and looked fabulous along the way.

If the problem is the name, then by all means, rebrand it. Leia is a Disney Princess now. But if this is some body-shaming thing, then it feels a bit like regression.
