When I opened the figure, something about his armpit joint felt off to me and it took me a while to realize that the armpit joint was misaligned. I tried to sort of finagle it back into its proper position, but just now it came out on me. It seems it can be fixed simply by fitting the peg into the hole on the inside, only issue with that is the peg is much bigger than the hole.

I'm wondering how I can fix this without having to buy an entirely new figure.

And maul says...hey at least its just an arm....i lost a whole lower torso.
Maybe a light sanding of th peg then soak in hot water and work it back in?
