I'm not making excuses. First off, the DC Icons don't even have waist twists at all so I don't understand where you're going there. They use the same diaphragm system that the lady legends use as a sort of psuedo-waist twist. They have the added ab crunch, though and it is a pretty cool piece of articulation, but you have to consider that adding any joint like that is going to compromise the sculpt since you have to make room for the articulation to make it functional, and especially with Hasbro's focus on curvier proportions for their female figures, it's not going to work as well with Legends as it would with Icons.
Like I said, the articulation on the female Legends works perfectly fine, I really don't understand what problems you're having with posing them. The only issue is really the hair, but there's not really any work around outside of having the hair sit way off of the shoulders which just looks ugly.
