Canada has lots of Wal-Marts
. I think what Alladinsane meant to say is that Canadian Wal-Mart stores have NO BLACK SERIES IN STOCK. My town has 3 Wal-Mart superstores, and I haven't seen any Black Series figures on display since Wave 2. (
We don't have K-Marts, though
.)
Wal-Mart Canada seems to be suffering store-wide from unprecedented trouble with lack of inventory and dwindling selection. I shop at Wal-Mart quite a lot, because inflation at independent grocers is getting terrible -- 20, 30, 40%+ depending on the item -- and Wal-Mart prices are usually cheaper by comparison due largely to aggressive purchasing and volume discounts, but lately, whole sections of aisles sit empty, and I leave with many items left on my shopping list. I suspect that lousy foreign exchange is an important reason: by shipping a product to Canada and selling in CAD$, you basically throw away 20-30% of the return you would make if you kept the product in the USA. Ergo, choking distribution to Canadian outlets is a sensible business decision, at least for now.
(I suspect that the National Hockey League pushes Canadian teams out of the playoffs for the same reason: seat, snack and merchandise sales are more profitable inside America.)
(Anecdotally, there are many parts of Canadian health care that are not 'free,' and the entire subsidized system is in crisis, overloaded and underfunded, so the new Prime Minister seems likely to pursue means-testing, fee-based services and some privatization in the near future. And marijuana is going to be regulated and taxed like liquor: Feds know a cash cow when they see one, and with the new leftist government tripling the rate of deficit spending, revenue is needed badly.)
