As bad of a movie it was, the costume was perfect. The animated eyes actually do the costume a disservice.
Still excited to see Spidey return to the big screen and finally make his MCU debut, but I still can't deny that this first look was pretty disappointing.
Deadpool's eyes were animated and I haven't heard anyone complain about that. You can tell that a lot of the characters are animated during action scenes in a lot of these movies, but I never hear people complain. Maybe it's because they are used sparingly and the action is pretty fast. I don't think a partially animated Spider-Man is that bad. No one gripes about how Cap's shield does impossible stuff. Spider-Man's eyes change like that in the comics to help convey emotions, so this doesn't bother me at all. We're talking about a movie where all the characters defy physics all the time.
It's kind of like people complaining about how Lois Lane doesn't figure out that Clark Kent is Superman. Some people can suspend disbelief and accept that a man can fly without being propelled, but not that a coworker wouldn't be able to see through a thin disguise.
I do agree that it would have been better to leave the surprise for the movie though. I'm coming to expect major spoilers from WB, but I thought Marvel and Disney would have known better. It's like killing Han Solo in the Force Awakens trailers.
