It does seem a little strange for NECA to completely make a new sculpt for a line in which they are not restricted (they have total access for releasing Aliens stuff) and make it so limited. I could totally see her not selling well as an individual figure outside of a con exclusive but certainly in a two pack she'd be worth getting to mass retail.

Re: con exclusives should be repaints, yes yes yes. That way if you can't get one you aren't totally missing out on something entirely unique and special.

You're right in that it seems odd for them to spend all the money on a new mold just to use it as an exclusive. Putting Newt in a two pack would be great. She could come with Ripley or even Hicks. Either way, if they are going to release her to the general public, I hope they say so before the con so those who want her don't have to scramble and feed the scalpers.
