I totally get the call for there to be more representation of diversity in comics and comic book movies but wouldn't we be kinda forcing Captain America into this? They'd have an easier time establishing Spider-Man as gay since he's only been on screen for like twenty minutes and that was mostly in an action-scene capacity.
It's not possible to "establish" a character as heterosexual short of the character saying "Actually I'm straight.", and even then someone actually feeling the need to say that is suspect in of itself. They played with this on Lost Girl with the straight best friend declaring her sexuality pretty starkly to define the dynamic between her and the lead, but as the show goes on we find she's a bit more fluid than that, to the extent of there being an episode called "The Kenzi scale".
There's no way to declare a character as being absolutely heterosexual. The reason we have so many straight or straight by default characters is because of the censorship of the comics code(amongst other things). Yet a lot of the people who complain about the idea of them updating characters that were in some cases always intended to be bisexual(Wolverine, Storm, Hercules come to mind) are often the ones that complain about censorship in other avenues.
And yes, the fact that there's more outrage over the idea of a Bi Steve Rogers than a Nazi version of an superpowered Irish Immigrant created by Jewish authors and a Jewish scientist is absolutely poisonous.
