Oh yeah. It's been a while, I haven't gotten to play a "proper" game since the mid 90's but I remember how different it was from other systems I had played before that allowed you to become better and more powerful the more you played but with that system, once you got done making your character, that's as good as it gets. After that it's all downhill and you just hope you go out with an interesting and memorable end. I remember it being very influential in changing my views of what a story's protagonist is, they don't always have to win in the end.
Also, the Lovecraft film festival I go to, Jason Soles is almost always there selling his personal wares in the dealers room and he's the guy who did the cover for the old WoTC D20 Call of Cthulhu source book for Dungeons and Dragons...
