I'm on the UK, so I am still awake.
So this is my Marvel legends opinion:
Last years, was Rogue. This years it's Dazzler. As much as I adore every type of Spider-man clone/alternate etc. I love odd characters that I find essential to the comics I read when I was growing up. "disco" Dazzler is one of them.
You may like her or not. I don't care. To me, Dazzler helped rescued Professor X, Storm and Colossus from the Hellfire Club, in one of the most amazing comics ever. Yes. The one where wolverine ends up in the gutter promising revenge. The stakes were high. Jean, was the hottest lady in the planet. Storm was powerful, but vulnerable, Cyclops made sense, Nightcrawler was the nicest guy, and Colossus, was the big brother. And Wolverine was the revengeful shit, that would care secretly; It was magic. It was exciting and the stakes were high. And Dazzler, in her disco outfit was a great help.
This to me (part of the Dark Phoenix saga) was what captivated me. And that's why, and no other, incarnation of Dazzler, makes sense as her, in her first figure ever.
It's simply because that's when the X -Men became the huge success, that develope into a TV show, and movies, and coffee cups. But, it all started in the late 70's with Chris Claremont and John Byrne, and their X-men upheaval, that propelled them to stardom.
Hence, someone, somewhere, said this ( the disco era) Dazzler made total sense, as the first Dazzler figure. She was part of it, part of the myth and anything else would have been a travesty.
