But yeah the thorn thing really put a monkey wrench in the franchise, I never really got the point. Like, weapon X was trying to recruited Myers ? Why and when did he get a tat? Hasn't he been instatusionalized sence he was 8?

So with every major horror franchise having been rebooted in the last few years, mostly with shit results, does anyone think we'all see any more Jason, Freddy, leather face, or Michael Myers flicks anytime soon? I expected the Friday the 13 th and Freddy reboots to have sequels but it's been a while now and it just seems the big continuity based slasher franchises in horror have been replaced with haunted house/ ghost deamon, amaricanized japanese grudge rip offs. And junk that looks like it was filmed on a security cam.
The Friday the 13th reboot was a box office success, and rumor has it that the next Friday the 13th will be out next year to coincide with a Friday the 13th calender date. Any other info on the film has been scarce though. Currently, rumors have it being a found footage film, which is a horrible idea, and I hope that fades.

The others though haven't done too well box office wise. The NOES reboot bombed, as did the last Rob Zombie Halloween flick, and while Texas 3D had a so so showing at the box office (and was surprisingly entertaining) news on the future of that franchise has also been scarce.

The slasher flick as we know it is dead, and I think it is just a sign of the times we live in, and horror films are currently seeing another shift. Slasher flicks were at their most popular during a time when the US was being stalked by the serial killer epidemic of the late 70s to very late 80s. Found footage movies were popular at a time where it was becoming more and more easy to get your hands on a camcorder, and seem to be on the way out as well (as evidenced by the poor showing of the last Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch films.) While ghost flicks still are popular, they too are slowly being replaced by the "random violent strangers in masks" type films like The Purge, Hush, and You're Next, which seem to echo society with the sheer amount of random acts of violence we are seeing today, (and is partly to blame for inspiring all this stupid "killer clown" copycat nonsense.)

While I have no doubt we will see Jason or Freddy on the big screen at some point, unless there is some interest in the genre that sprouts up from the general public, I fear our favorite masked killers will end up like our friends The Universal Studios Monsters. Great and iconic horror characters that Hollywood simply cannot figure out how to make entertaining films with.

That said, I took some advice from one of my biggest fans, Leslie Vernon, and get in some time at the gym before Halloween this year. Power walking after sexually healthy teenagers is tough, so remember to work on your core, and cardio, cardio, cardio!
