That's not at all the impression I've gotten; unless you only hang around either people who think ANH and ESB (and for some, RotJ) are the only good Star Wars material ever made and burst a blood vessel when you say anything remotely negative about them, or people who think the PT are some of the best movies ever made and burst a blood vessel when someone says anything even remotely negative about them, I don't know how you came to the conclusion that SW fans, in general, don't like Finn.
The impression I've gotten is that the general reception of Finn has been at least pretty warm. There are some people who hate him, but many of those people also think that Rey is a "Mary Sue" (as if she did more unbelievable things than Anakin or Luke, but I'm not having that conversation right now) or complain that Kylo is no more than a whiny wannabe Vader (as if that's not kinda the point of the character, a character who desparately wants to be Vader but is still developing as a villain), or that the "badassness" of a character is more important than good writing (Boba Fett, anyone? I mean, I think he's awesome too, but he's still one of the weaker characters in the OT; also, again, see the Kylo v. Vader point earlier), so I don't necessarily trust their judgement on what makes a good character.
Wow, this post ended up being way more of a mini-rant than I expected it to be going in, but
TL;DR: Finn's reception within the SW fanbase is probably quite a bit warmer than you perceive it to be.
